Meet the maker

"The absolute joy is being able to create a one-off piece for someone by incorporating the design motifs they like. People give me colours, animals, patterns, a mood or occasion as inspiration… that emerges into something very special for them and for me."

Alex's creative career in traditional arts began twenty years ago. She has a background in Fine Art framing and traditional decorative marbling and painting techniques.  As an avid antique collector she fell into picture framing quite by chance, spending a decade working and training with a variety of skilled artisan masters.

The beauty of picture framing is that it demands the mastery of a wide range of traditional creative skills, from gilding and faux-painting to woodwork. Whilst decoupage is now her focus, Alex still makes use of her picture framing skills to frame the oil paintings of her talented daughter, Fine Art painter Phoebe Stewart Carter.

Alex works from her home studio in the bucolic area of Tetbury, an area in the Cotswolds, well known for its antiques and Fine Art.
